Grandmother Irene

Today at 1:50pm we lost my sweet Grandmother. She was 95 years old. What a triumph for her as she had a great life and loved the Lord. We know she is in heaven with the Lord and her husband.

I wanted to share a few things about my Grandmother that are special to me. The first thing I always noticed about Grandmother is that she always had her bible out. She had a huge black leather bible that I always always sat on her bed side table. I know that she read it a lot and she never knew I noticed it but I did and loved it. The other thing I secretly loved about her was that she always wore panty hose. Now, I hate panty hose personally but she insisted on being dressed up and there was no way to be dressed up without panty hose. I loved the little booties she knitted for Matt and I every year. We used them to slide across the wood floors in our house and had so much fun. Another thing I loved about her is that she wrote letters. I am a big note (letter) writer and I loved that she did this. She had a little desk that she would sit at and write letters to the family and now that desk is mine. I love it.
One of my favorite stories about her includes her famous pecan pie. Grandmother was a really good cook and she used to invite us all over for Sunday lunch at her house when she lived in Midland. On Sunday after she had already begun to lose her memory to Alzheimer's, me, Mom, and Matt were eating at her house. She had made a great lunch and a pecan pie for desert. Lunch was good and we got to the pecan pie and it was rock solid! She immediately went into the kitchen and came back with a pair of scissors and began cutting the pecan pie with the scissors. Matt and I absolutely lost it. I think we laughed for an hour. She didn't even notice that is was funny! To this day I remember that as a time that I laughed the hardest and I remember it with love in my heart for her.
On Friday or Saturday we will be going to Lovington, NM to bury her next to my Grandfather. It will be a special time to spend with my family and a celebration of her life.
